live Willow support systems
RML
Bioengineering designs and constructs live willow support
systems. These systems are introduced when the feasibility
of conventional engineering
works are ruled out on grounds of environmental
impact
and cost.
RML have long established
expertise in bio-engineering and were responsible
for the CIRIA report on "The Use of Vegetation in Civil Engineering".
The benefits of a live willow support system
over a conventional heavy engineering solution
are:
- No heavy plant needed
- Difficult access is
not a problem.
- A green solution, ideal for environmentally
sensitive areas
- A soft solution, designed to blend in with
the surrounding environment
- Rapid installation
- Economical
- Varying length management programmes
to match client resources and needs
- Generally very well accepted
with the Environment Agency and bodies such as the Countryside
Council for Wales.
RML’s staff
include experienced engineers, aboriculturalists,
vegetation managers and ecologists.
RML have already carried out a wide
range of bioengineering schemes to stabilise
banks alongside roads, rivers,
coastal margins
and private
property.
Projects are widely spread across England
and Wales. Clients have been drawn from both
Public and
Private sectors. At
our own research centre, established
at Llysfasi College, we deepen our knowledge
and refine our techniques into
the use of vegetation in
construction.
